Interesting times in the Middle-East

There are two news items worth keeping an eye on in the Middle-East right now.

The first in the recent election in Egypt.  The newly elected president is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood party.  This radical Islamic party is hostile to the state of Israel.  With such a regime in power in Egypt, the region could be even further destabilized.  Coming to power in Egypt will surely encourage the Muslim Brotherhood in other Middle-East nations.

Second, is the increasing distress in Syria.  Between the rebel fighting in the country itself, and the recent downing of a Turkish airplane, which drew a harsh response from Turkey, the bloodshed could be about to increase exponentially.  It appears the conditions are being put in place for a manor regional conflict.

In light of this it is important to remember the prophecy of Isaiah 17 that says Damascus will be destroyed.  Could this be the conflict that will bring about that destruction?  Only time will tell, but it does seem we could be on the brink of seeing this Old Testament prophecy fulfilled before our eyes.
