U.S. to warn Israel about strike against Iran

U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta was set to warn Israel yesterday of possible unintended consequences of launching a first strike against Iran.  That's an easy message to deliver when you are not the one in the cross hairs of an Iranian nuclear weapon.

It's clear from reading the article below that the U.S. is not really interested in doing anything about the growing Iranian nuclear threat.  I just pray that if/when Israel acts because they feel like they have no other choice that our government will give them the support they need.

Israel and Iran

I have linked two articles of interest involving Israel and Iran.

The first is an article which states the opinion of a U.S. blogger that the recent explosion at an Iranian missile storage facility was the work of Mossad.  There has been no credible report of the accuracy of this from any reputable news agency.  It is an interesting theory, and one that I have to admit I have pondered.

http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-4147550,00.html

The second is an article stating that Israel is not planning on giving the U.S. a head's up if it chooses to launch a first strike on Iran.  In my opinion this shows how little the Israeli government trusts the government of the U.S.  It also shows what Israel thinks of the level of support they are getting from the U.S.   According to the article the strike could come as early as next summer.

True feelings always come out

The following link gives some insight into the true feelings of French President Nicholas Sarkozy and U.S. President Barack Obama about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-4145266,00.html

It's disturbing to say the least.

New report on Iran and nuclear weapons

A new report from foxnews.com quotes the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as saying that Iran has been conducting tests specific to nuclear weapons research, not just nuclear energy research.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/11/08/iran-conducting-experiments-specific-to-developing-nuclear-arms-un-says/

I can't believe there are still some who doubt Iran's true intentions.  They have a leader who publicly advocates the destruction of Israel and the United States.  It is their intention to develop a nuclear weapon and they will not stop until they have.

Economic sanctions are not working to deter Iran.  They have not and they will not.  Only military force will stop Ahmadinejad from obtaining these weapons.  No one knows this better than Israel.

It's because of this that news stories are flying that an Israeli attack on Iran could be imminent.  How would this figure into end-times prophecy?  An Israeli attack on Iran could be the event that unifies the coalition of Ezekiel 38-39 to launch an attack on Israel.  An Israeli attack on Iran could engulf the region in a massive war, a war that could take one gifted politician to bring peace.

Whether its one of these scenarios, both, or neither a war will fundamentally change the region and have consequences for those of us who live in other parts of the world as well.

Good read on Iran and nuclear weapons

The following is a good article on Iran and its pursuit of nuclear weapons.  If they continue to pursue nuclear weapons, and they will, it will undoubtedly lead to some sort of showdown between Iran and Israel.

Vatican calls for world bank

I have linked below what I think is a very interesting news story.  In the article you will read how the Vatican has called for a world bank to be created to rule over the world's financial institutions.  This is interesting on a couple of levels.

First, any news story involving the consolidation of the world's banking systems and a move toward a one-world-currency is relevant to any discussion of end-time prophecy.  This story is no different.

The second reason to me, however, is the most interesting.  There is a theory  held by some end-time scholars that the false prophet of Revelation 13 will be an apostate pope.  Something that most people don't realize is that it is the false prophet who controls the financial side of the Antichrist's kingdom and implements the mark of the beast.  If this theory is true, then this could be the groundwork being laid for the financial order that will rule during the tribulation.

The U.S. pull out of Iraq and the death of Qadaffi

Last week brought two major news stories involving the Middle East.  First, President Obama announced that the withdrawl of U.S. military forces from Iraq would be complete by the end of 2011.  Second, was the death of former Libyan dictator Muammar Qaddafi.  I believe that both of these could potentially be of enormous significance in terms of end-times prophecy.

First let's look at the withdrawl of U.S. troops from Iraq.  One of the great fears brought about by the withdrawl of U.S. forces in Iraq is that the country will come under the control of Iran and the Apocalyptic Muslims who run the country.  To understand why this is a distinct possibility, you have to understand the eschatology of those running Iran.  Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is of the belief that he has been commissioned by Allah to be the forerunner of the Mahdi, the Islamic Messiah figure whose description from Islamic texts mirrors that of the Antichrist.  Iraq plays into the Islamic beliefs on the Mahdi.

It is believed that when the Mahdi appears that he will emerge from Iraq.  It is likely that Ahmadinejad wants to control Iraq because he believes this will hasten the appearing of the Mahdi.  It is also interesting to note that this is the same geogrpahic area that the Bible says the Antichrist will come from.  If the theory that some Bible scholars holds is true that when the Antichrist takes center stage that the Muslim world will hail him as their Mahdi, then what we are about to see take place in Iraq could very well be setting the stage for the appearance of the Antichrist.

Now let's look at the death of Muammar Qadaffi in Libya.  There have been a couple of interesting reports coming out of Libya from Fox News.  One is that Iran is now looking to increase its influence in the nation as its new government forms.  The second is that the new government of Libya will be based on strict Islamic Sharia law.  Both of these developments points to the fulfillment of Ezekiel 38 where Libya is part of a coalition along with Iran that will suddenly attack Israel.

As these two stories continue to develop over the coming weeks and months, it will be interesting to see how the stage continues to be set for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy.

Luke 21:12

In Luke 21 Jesus in response to his disciples gives a list of the signs of the end-times.  In Luke 21:12 He says this:

But before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake.

With that in mind, consider the following article.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/09/21/california-couple-fined-300-for-holding-home-bible-studies/

I really feel this is an example of the kind of persecution that the church and believers can expect to see increase as we draw nearer to the time of the rapture.  I believe we will continue to see a growing hostility toward the church from the government.  I know a $300 fine is not the same as imprisonment, but it could be the first step down a slippery slope.

As much as I want to be upset by this, I can't be when I read further in Luke to what Jesus said next.  Luke 21:13-15 reads like this:

But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony. Therefore settle it in your hearts not to meditate beforehand on what you will answer; for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to contradict or resist.

We as the church may be headed for days of hostility and persecution, but according to Jesus this will be a time of great testimony for us.  In times of trial the Holy Spirit will give us the words to say that will allow us to be effective witnesses for him, and that is an exciting thing.

Peace talks could resume by months end

The following article indicates that the resumption of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians could happen by the end of the month.  It seems that the target date for now is October 23.

Whatever happens in resumed peace talks will surely be significant from an end-times perspective.  Either some sort of peace agreement will be reached that will be a precursor or foreshadowing of the Daniel 9:27 deal, or more pieces will be put into place for the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy.

It remains important for us as Christians to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and to pray for the leaders of our own country to have the wisdom to stand beside Israel.

Chrislam

One of the greatest apostasies gaining followers today is a merger of the Christian faith and the religion of Islam know as "Chrislam."  How anyone could reconcile the Bible's teachings on loving your enemy with the Koran's call to kill infidels is beyond me, but some "Christians" have found a way to do so.

I do believe this is part of the falling away from the faith prophesied to happen in the last days, but there could be more to it as well.  There are some scholars who believe that the one-world religion that will appear during the tribulation will be Islam.  As part of this belief, the feel that the stage will be set for this by more and more liberal denominations finding common ground with Islam.  They could be on to something.

Quartet to meet over the weekend

Panetta and U.S. government treading on dangerous ground.

As a representative of the U.S. government, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta is treading on some very dangerous ground.  Along with his statements about Israel isolating themselves, he has now begun to apply pressure to Israel not to act against Iran to take out their nuclear capabilities according to a report by Time Magazine.  This is a very easy position to take, Mr. Secretary, when the madman in charge who feels it is his duty to destroy you doesn't have his sights set on you.

I guarantee you if the shoe were on the other foot, no one in our nation would stand still for a foreign official pressuring us not to act in our own self-interests or benefit.

On the heels of this report is the following one from World Net Daily, which shows how agents of the U.S government (including Panetta) may be acting to bring about regime change in Israel.  If a government like the U.S. wanted to have a much more controllable Israel in any upcoming peace negotiations, they would certainly want Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu out of power.

Prime Minister Netanyahu will not allow Israel to be pressured into making a bad deal by the Mideast Quartet or anyone else.  Having him gone would certainly make Israel easier to deal with in the eyes of much of the world, but that is not what is in the best interests of Israel.

U.S. Secretary of Defense warns of Israeli isolation

U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta warned Israel that they are becoming increasingly isolated in the region, and said they must find a way to get back to the negotiating table with the Palestinians.

In my opinion this has to go down as one of the stupidest things a U.S. official has ever said.  Is it Israel's fault they are surrounded by nations that want to wipe them off the map?   Is it wrong that they want to have defensible borders?  Is it wrong that they don't want to surrender land that will be used as a staging are for rockets to be fired into the heart of Jewish communities?

Israel has been isolated since May 1948 when she fulfilled prophecy and once again became a nation.  Blaming Israel for her isolation is like blaming an island for being surrounded by water and not attached to other land.  It's ignorant statements like this, and the placing of blame on Israel that worry me that when push comes to shove our leaders will not take a stand for Israel.

Peace talks could resume within a month

Israel has agreed to move ahead with the Mideast Quartet's peace plan of negotiating without preconditions, and are willing to do so within a month.  The ball is now in the Palestinians' court to see if they agree to meet like this as well.

It's important for Christians in America to pray that our leaders will stand beside Israel, and not pressure her to make concessions on land that will bring about indefensible borders.  We want to continue to be seen as a nation that blesses Israel and not one that curses Israel.

The prospect of a peace agreement raises all kinds of interesting questions.  Is this the peace that Israel will be living in that is mentioned in Ezekiel 38 prior to the invasion of Gog and Magog?  Is this the framework for peace that the Antichrist will reaffirm mentioned in Daniel 9:27?  Whether it is one of these or something else, events are starting to shape up for Biblical prophecy to be fulfilled.

U.S. stance on settlements

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has called the Israeli building of 1,100 new housing units in East Jerusalem "counterproductive."  According to Clinton the U.S. is hoping neither the Israelis or Palestinians will do anything that the other would consider provocative so that peace talks can get back underway.

The United States would be wise to be careful in the position it takes regarding this issue.  All of Jerusalem was promised to Israel by God, not just parts of it.  If they desire to build, then they have that right.  Pressuring Israel to halt construction, with one eye looking down the road at the possibility of a Palestinian state will not be viewed favorably by God.

Turkey and Iran join forces

Turkey and Iran are joining together militarily for an operation in Northern Iraq.  This is significant that these two nations are working together on a military operation.  This alliance is part of the Gog-Magog coalition of Ezekiel 38-39.  It will be interesting to watch this partnership grow in the coming days.

Palestinian's petition for statehood

Today was the day that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas petitioned the U.N. for recognition of an independent Palestinian state.  This was no surprise as it has been reported this was going to happen for weeks now.  Here is what to keep an eye on in the days ahead.

1.  Does this lead to violent protests in Israel, especially in Gaza?

2.  How will international community react to what will more than likely be a recognition from the U.N General Assembly, but not the security council?

3.  What will the U.S. do in the way of trying to restart peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians?

One thing is for sure, this is not the end of this issue, but in many ways just a new beginning.

Netanyahu to address U.N. before Palestinian bid

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will address the U.N. prior to the Palestinian bid for statehood.  I pray God gives him wisdom, but outside of a miracle I doubt it does any good.  The U.N. is very anti-Israeli, and I doubt anything Prime Minister Netanyahu will say can change that.

Netanyahu has also called on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas to meet for direct negotiations.  It does not seem like Abbas is too interested in talking.

I believe Friday will prove to be an interesting day.  I think that there is an excellent chance that this Palestinian bid for statehood could spell the end of any kind of peace process, and lead to the outbreak of violence in Israel.  IF, capital letters used intentionally, things play out like this, it could lead to the scenario that would lead to the rise of one man promising to bring peace.  These are interesting times indeed.

Big Week

This is the week that the Palestinians are set to petition the U.N. for statehood.  The repercussions of this could bring violence to Israel in the form of Palestinian protests within days, not to mention more attacks on Israeli embassies like what happened Egypt.

There will be plenty of news stories this week regarding what's happening, and as the week goes on I'll try to link and comment on some.

With this Friday's petition looming, we as Christians need to pray for the following things:
1.  The peace of Jerusalem
2.  Wisdom for our leaders to stand beside Israel
3.  Wisdom for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
4.  Safety in Israel with the potential for violent protests.

More rhetoric from Turkey

The Road to Gog-Magog

Recently I have spent quite a bit of time here discussing Turkey and its increasing hostility toward Israel.  I have more news to report on that front.  Not that this is a surprise, but Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has met with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas to encourage him in the Palestinian bid for statehood next week before the U.N.

I have linked an article about this below, but I want to highlight this quote:

On Tuesday, during a speech before the Arab League, Erdogan emphasized that the recognition of a Palestinian state was “not an option but an obligation.”

Couple that quote with the other article that I have linked below which states Russia has stated its intention to support the Palestinian bid for statehood next week, and it presents an interesting set of circumstances.

Ezekiel 38-39 tells us that something will cause the nations of the Gog-Magog coalition, of which Russia and Turkey are a major part, to attack Israel.  Biblical scholars have long debated what it would be that would be the "hook in the jaw" the passage speaks of.  Many have speculated oil, some have said food, and others have thought it was just a hatred of the Jews.  Could the issue of Palestinian statehood be the triggering issue to bring about the invasion?

Israel and Turkey part IV.

There is more news to report on the rapidly deteriorating relations between Israel and Turkey.  I have linked two articles that dive more into this topic.  Here is the first.

http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-4121204,00.html

This article details how Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has said Israel's reaction to last year's flotilla was an act of war.  You can read the article for all of the details and all of his reasons, but you can see how he is setting the stage to engage Israel militarily if there is a flotilla type situation in the near future.  We know Turkey will be part of the Gog-Magog coalition of Ezekiel 38-39.  The military confrontation between these two is inevitable.  Is this the buildup to Gog-Magog, or a preview confrontation that will be part of the buildup?  Only time will tell.

Before moving on to the next article, I want to make one more comment about this one.  I found the concluding sentence of this article to be the most interesting part of the whole piece.  It reads like this:

Erdogan is expected to give a speech on Monday at Cairo University, where his aides say he will set out Turkey's vision for the region.

The Antichrist will come out of a coalition of nations that will arise in this region of the world.  Turkey has long desired to build a union of nations in the Middle-East similar to the EU in Europe.  Recently Turkey has been positioning itself to be a leader in the region.  It seems like they are trying to build their ties with the Islamic nations of the region.  Perhaps this is a first step in trying to form an organized group.  Could this be the forerunner of the kingdom of the beast?  It will be interesting to see what Erdogan's "vision for the region" is.

Here is the second article:

http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=237670

This article states how Turkey is sending three warships to the eastern Mediterranean to protect Gaza "if necessary."  In my opinion this comes across as Turkey getting ready for a fight.  With their recent posturing in regard to Israel, I believe they will find it necessary to defend Gaza and engage militarily with Israel, whether they really need to or not.

Israeli embassy in Egypt attacked

The Israeli embassy in Egypt was attacked last night by a group of Egyptian rebels.  The ambassador and his family had to be evacuated out of the country by military aircraft.  You can read more details about the attack in the following article.

The attack certainly adds to the tension between Israel and her Islamic neighbors.  The rebels who attacked were opposed by the Egyptian government, but the incident highlights the anti-Semitic sentiment prevalent in the region.  This sentiment will continue to grow until major fighting breaks out in the region.

The continuing rise of apostasy

2 Thessalonians 2:3 tells us that the rapture will not occur until a great falling away from the faith happens.  All anyone has to do is observe our society through the media to see that this is already happening.  Our society seems to be running away from Christ as quick as it can.  Because of that trend, it is rare that I am surprised by anything that I read, see, or hear about the silencing of Christians here in America.  However, my jaw hit the floor when I read the following article today.

At a memorial service this weekend for 9/11 at the National Cathedral there will be Buddhists, Muslims, and Hindus but no Evangelical Christians.  Let that sink in for a minute.  There will be not Evangelical Christian representation at a "service" at the National Cathedral which has been designated as "The National House of Prayer" since WWII by congress.

It is sad to see the falling away from the truth that is occurring, but it should cause us to lift up our heads because our redemption draweth nigh (Luke 21:28).

Israel and Turkey part III.

Last week I wrote a couple of entries detailing the eroding relations between Israel and Turkey.  In those entries I discussed the reasons why this could be happening, and the Biblical implications of it.  On the heels of the events of last week I read today that Turkey has suspended its remaining ties to Israel.  Please refer back to last week's entries for commentary on this.

It's obvious that something is brewing in Turkey.  You have to wonder if these diplomatic moves by Turkey are a precursor to some sort of military action.

140 nations expected to vote for Palestinian statehood

When the issue of Palestinian statehood comes before the U.N. on September 23, 140 of the U.N.'s 193 nations are expected to vote in favor of the creation of a Palestinian state.  While this will not officially create such a state, it will give the Palestinians ammunition to pressure nations of the world to place sanctions on Israel until an independent Palestinian state is created.  This vote can bring nothing good for Israel.  We are starting to see all the nations of the world turn against Israel as the prophet Zechariah said would happen.

Given the history of various national disasters, economic disasters, and other disasters striking nations that take foreign policy positions against Israel on the heels of those decisions being made (e.g. Katrina in the U.S.), it will be interesting to track what transpires in these nations that do not stand beside Israel, but vote for this resolution.  According to the article below, the E.U. is still undecided on how they will handle the Palestinian bid in the U.N.  If they do not stand with Israel and something major happens in Israel, then that could have ripple effects that could be felt all over the glove, including here in the U.S.

Thankfully, as of know the United States is not planning on supporting the resolution for Palestinian statehood in the U.N.  Let's pray this does not change.

Israel and Turkey part II.

On the heels of expelling Israel's ambassador to the country, Turkey is now preparing to challenge Israel on their blockade of Gaza before the world court.  In my opinion this only reinforces the excerpt quoted here yesterday on how Turkey is trying to destroy their relationship with Israel to bolster their status in the Arab world.  It sure does appear as if they are looking to pick a fight with Israel.  Keep these developments in mind going forward as the pieces are set in place for the Gog-Magog war of Ezekiel 38-39.

Israel and Turkey

Turkey has expelled Israel's ambassador to the nation and they are cutting off military ties over an incident last year involving a flotilla to Gaza.  The following article details the recent development.  I find the following excerpt particularly interesting.

A senior Israeli government official who had seen the report told the AP earlier this week that Israel has come to believe that Turkey is intent on worsening ties with Israel in order to bolster its own position in the Arab and Islamic world.

This statement should make the ears of anyone interested in end-time prophecy perk up.  I say this for two reasons.

One, Turkey is part of the Islamic coalition named in Ezekiel 38-39 that will invade Israel only to be defeated by God Himself.  Some scholars believe Turkey will have a leadership role in this invasion.  If they are indeed trying to bolster their position in the region, where many of the other nations of Ezekiel 38-39 are located, we could be seeing another brick in the wall of this emerging coalition.

Second, there are scholars who believe the Antichrist will arise out of a ten nation coalition located in the Middle East.  I believe this is very likely an accurate interpretation of scripture.  There have been rumblings over the last couple of years of Turkey wanting to take a leadership role in the region.  There has even been speculation that they would like to build a coalition in the Middle-East similar to the EU in Europe.  Such a ten nation coalition could be sea the beast will rise up out of (Revelation 13:1).  If you search back in the archives of this blog you will find an in depth review of the nations that could be a part of such a union.

Israel and Iran both deploy ships to the Red Sea area

In an interesting development both Israel and Iran have deployed warships to the Red Sea area.  Israel is acting in response to terrorist threats from the area.  The ships were sent to patrol the area and to try to prevent terrorists from coming in through Egypt.

According to Iranian leadership, Iran's 15th fleet (consisting of several warships and a submarine) has been deployed to the Red Sea area to show her force on the seas and to thwart pirates.  I find it a little to coincidental that Iran's ships have been deployed at the same time as Israel's.

I feel certain this mutual deployment will only cause already sky-high tensions between the two nations to escalate even further.  It seems likely that a confrontation between the two nations will happen sooner rather than later.

Iran will be part of the Islamic coalition to attack Israel in the Gog-Magog war of Ezekiel 38-39.  Their involvement in this future military campaign does not preclude the possibility of an earlier confrontation between these two states.  In fact, a confrontation between the two could further set the pieces in place for this future battle.  (For example: the Islamic coalition of Ezekiel 38-39 could rise against Israel in response to an attack by Israel on Iran to knock out its nuclear capabilities.)

Palestinian protests could put international pressure on Israel

One of the goals of upcoming Palestinian protests in Israel for statehood is to turn the opinion of the international community to a very pro-Palestinian position.  The hope is that with such a shift in opinion might come sanctions and pressure on the Israeli people.

The book of Zechariah tells us that the day will come when all nations will come against Israel.  It's possible the seeds for this event are beginning to sprout before our eyes.

New concerns in Syria

There are growing concerns over the presence of WMDs in Syria from officials in Israel and the United States. The concern is over these weapons falling into the hands of radicals.  Israel is hoping for democratic reform in Syria, but if the turmoil there leads to a radical Islamic regime, we could see the a combination of circumstances that will bring about the destruction of Damascus prophesied in Isaiah 17.

Lost in the shuffle on the Libya news

This news item seems to have been lost in the shuffle of all that is transpiring in Libya.

Jerusalem has gone on high terror alert due to intelligence reports that an attack was planned on the city.  This would seem to be an opportune time to strike with so much of the world's attention focused on Libya.  Let's continue to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

BREAKING NEWS: The latest on Libya

I have been glued to the television for the last couple of hours watching as the Libyan rebels have moved into Tripoli and word has come out that Qaddafi has fled to Algeria.  This is obviously one of those times where through the medium of television we are able to watch history unfold before our eyes.  As I have been watching these events take place, I have been pondering the question: how does this fit into the spectrum of end-time prophecy and end-time events?  I don't know that I have all of the answers, but there are a couple of interesting points to take note of.

First, Ezekiel 38:5 lists Libya as one of the nations that will be part of the coalition to come against Israel in the War of Gog and Magog.  It was never a stretch of the imagination to see this taking place with Qaddafi in power.  I do not think this changes now, it may even seem more likely.

I am amazed as I sit here and listen to the talking heads discuss on television what kind of government will arise to take Qaddafi's place.  They throw around the word democracy in hopeful, reverential tones.  If recent history (e.g. Egypt) is any guide, we can expect to see an even more radical Islamic government seize power.  Don't be surprised to hear more and more in the coming days about the influence of the Muslim Brotherhood in Libya.

This article from March will address that issue further:

 http://articles.cnn.com/2011-03-25/world/libya.islamists_1_moammar-gadhafi-libyan-regime-benghazi?_s=PM:WORLD

Here is a link that provides a good overview of the Muslim Brotherhood:

http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Terrorism/muslimbrotherhood.html

Second, Daniel 11:43 states that Libya will follow after the Antichrist.  Some have interpreted this verse to mean that Libya will be overtaken and controlled by the Antichrist.  Either way what is happening today could play into both scenarios.  If it means simply that Libya follows the Antichrist, then that fits with a radical Islamic government following an Islamic leaders.  If it means Libya comes under the Antichrist's control, a nation mired in turmoil, which is what Libya is right now, would be easy pickings.

I believe what we are witnessing today is not only historic, but also a significant milestone in the setting of the table for end-time prophetic events to be fulfilled.

Violence escalating in Israel

The recent violence in Israel has been escalating and Israeli officials fear it could still worsen.  Instances like this always deserve the attention of end-times prophecy students.  It's episodes like this that could lead to the war described in Psalm 83.  Also, violent outbreaks like this put renewed emphasis on producing a peace agreement.  The pieces continue to be put into place that will one day bring forth the fulfillment of end-time prophecy.

Terror attacks in Israel

Israel suffered from another terrorist attack today close to their southern border near Egypt.  Incidents like this are exactly why asking Israel to return to pre-1967 borders is insane.  Israel suffers enough from terror attacks like this with the borders they have now.  A return to pre-1967 borders would be indefensible for Israel.  Let's all pray that our leaders realize the importance of Israel's right to exist, defend themselves, and have defensible borders.

Israel condemned by quartet

The quartet (the U.S., U.N. E.U., and Russia) looking to bring peace to the Middle-East has condemned Israel for its plan to build more housing units in Jerusalem.  Of concern to the quartet was that Jerusalem was referred to as a "core issue that must be resolved" in future peace talks.

First of all, Israel has every right to build these housing units in their nation.  No nation on earth, including those in the quartet, would stand for outside forces telling them what they could and could not build in their nation.  Second of all, Jerusalem is not a "core issue to be resolved."  Jerusalem was given to the descendants of Abraham by God.  It is His city, and any attempt to divide the city, as well as the land, will bring the disfavor of God on those responsible.

I was displeased to see the U.S State Department issuing a statement saying they were deeply concerned with what was happening.  We need to pray for our leaders to come down on the right side of this issue.

Syria

A lot of the news coming out of the Middle-East recently as dealt with the growing unrest in Syria and the crackdowns by Syrian President Bashar Assad.  How does what is happening in Syria fit in with end-time prophecy?

Isaiah 17 tells us that Damascus will be destroyed.  Obviously this involves Syria.  What is not known is how or when this destruction will take place.  I have always assumed Damascus would be destroyed in a war with Israel.  I still hold to this opinion, but the growing violence has caused me to wonder if Damascus could be destroyed in some sort of civil uprising.  As I said, I still think it will happen in a skirmish with Israel, but only time will tell.

Whatever is happening in the nation can only serve to further set the table for the events of the last days to unfold.  I have included a link to an article on the situation in Syria.

A date to watch

I have been writing here for some time about the planned move by the Palestinians to petition the U.N. for statehood, thus bypassing the peace process.  All information on this indicated it would happen sometime in September.  Now we know the date.  September 20 is the date set as of now for the Palestinian request to be presented to the U.N.

It's critical for believers to pray for our leaders to stand beside Israel when this happens.

The economic wave of the future

The article I have linked below is a little old (2007), but I think it is as timely now as ever.  I believe one trend to keep an eye on in the future is the push for regional currencies and eventually a one-world-currency.  With the economic situation here in the United States, we have already heard of world leaders, especially Vladimir Putin of Russia, calling for the world to move away from the dollar as the world's reserve currency.

In my opinion the first step to a one-world-currency will be the establishment of several regional currencies.  The one discussed in the article below is the "amero."  The amero is the proposed currency for North America.  I have been told the idea of the amero has been widely reported on in Canada, but is virtually ignored by the media here in the U.S.

Obviously you have to be careful what you read, but if you want to learn more about the amero, google it and you may be shocked by what you find.

Here is a link to a short video from CNBC about the amero.  I apologize in advance for some of the language in the comments section.

End-times technology

It's easy with everything going on in Israel to sometimes overlook other news items that demonstrate the fact we are living in the end-times.  The following article is an example of one.

The article details a new "electronic skin tattoo" that sure does sound like it could be the method used, possibly in a refined form, to implement the mark of the beast.

Trouble brewing for Netanyahu?

The growing dissatisfaction among Israelis toward Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of the Israeli economy is apparently spreading to other leaders in the nation.

The possible scenario discussed in the following article is one that I raised the possibility of days ago in this blog.  That scenario is a fracturing of the government in Israel due to unhappiness over the economic situation in Israel.

In my mind these are perilous times for the Israeli government.  Prime Minister Netanyahu has been solid on defending the borders of Israel.  The worst thing that could happen would be for someone else to come to power who would not have the resolve of Netanyahu.

Christians all over the world should keep the leadership of Israel and its economy in their prayers.

Mid-East nuclear talks

A group of Middle-East nations, including Israel according to some reports, may be sitting down soon with the U.N.'s nuclear agency to discuss a nuclear weapon free Middle-East.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office has called the report that Israel will attend incorrect, and I hope this is so.  I believe nothing good could come of this meeting for Israel.

The United Nations is notoriously anti-Israeli.  Any kind of truces or conclusions reached by this group would almost certainly be to the detriment of Israel.  Take this excerpt from the article linked below for example.

Arab countries and Iran are aware of the potential of using the 2012 U.N. conference as a platform to pressure Israel to fulfill their long-standing demands: joining the nonproliferation treaty, acknowledging that it has nuclear weapons and allowing IAEA inspectors to probe their atomic activities.

This seems like a move by Arab countries to use "diplomacy" to damage Israel's nuclear program.  The Israeli nuclear weapon program is very important to Israel.  It is their greatest deterrent to an attack from surrounding Arab-Muslim nations.

Let's pray for our leaders to take a stand for Israel, and their right to defend themselves if such a meeting does take place.

Israel declares war on Iran...sort of

Israel has created a cyber military unit to go to war with Iran.  This is due to growing Israeli concern that a conventional attack would not stop Iran's program.

I personally think this is a good idea.  Israel needs to go on the attack so to speak before they are attacked.  However, I have to wonder what this could lead Iran to do.  I doubt it would take much provocation for Ahmadinejad to start lobbing missiles at Israel.  We should continue to pray for Israel's protection and safety.

Saturday a day of prayer for the U.S.

There will be a massive rally this Saturday in Houston, Texas to dedicate a day of prayer for our country, the United States of America.  As we as Christians pray for our leaders, the debt and, and the future of our country, let's not forget to pray that our leaders have the wisdom to stand by Israel.

The stealth threat to Israel

In the midst of neighbors that hate them and a looming Iranian nuclear threat, Israel could be dealing with a stealth enemy that will harm them from within.  That enemy is the state of the Israeli economy.  The following article relates the growing dissatisfaction in Israel with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over economic issues.

Here is how I foresee that these economic problems COULD hurt Israel in dealing with their security and the Palestinian statehood issue.  There could be no one stronger on security issues to lead Israel than Netanyahu.  However, if he were to lose his coalition in the government and therefore lose his position, he could be replaced by someone who will not stand as strong against the Iranian threat, the threat of a Palestinian state, or anti-Israeli sentiments in the government here in the U.S.  A weaker leader could lead to compromise that would leave Israel with indefensible borders and looking weak in the eyes of the international community.

We as Christians need to pray for the leaders of Israel to have wisdom in leading their country not just in security issues, but economic issues as well.

Thank God

An Israeli official has denied the report from Israel's Channel 2 that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ready to negotiate from pre-1967 borders.  As stated before, those would be indefensible borders.  Any person or nation pressuring Israel to negotiate from the standpoint is asking Israel to put themselves in a position where they could not defend themselves.  I'm sure this would come closer to cursing Israel than blessing Israel in God's eyes.

The following article contains the denial of the Channel 2 report.  Also, it gives a very good, easy to understand explanation of what the Palestinians are hoping to accomplish by petitioning the U.N. for statehood next month.  It also gives a good explanation of the likely U.N. response.

Russia's Putin slams U.S. economy

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called the U.S. a "parasite" on the global economy.  He went on to blast U.S. economic practices.  In his remarks he talked about the need for the world economy to have other reserve currencies besides the U.S. dollar.

I think these comments are significant for a couple of reasons.  First, the growing call among nations for other reserve currencies could well be the first step toward a one-world-currency which will appear in the future.  Second, Russia will be a major player in end-times events (Ezekiel 38-39).  Putin seems like the kind of leader who wants to lead Russia back to prominence and rebuild the old Soviet empire, thus further setting the stage for end-times events.

Israel may be ready to negotiate with pre-1967 borders

According to an Israeli television report, Israel may be ready to negotiate with the Palestinians according to pre-1967 borders.  If true, this is a dramatic shift in policy for Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  I have to wonder what caused him to change his mind.

If a peace deal is reached, I am sure there will be many people who will wonder if this is the agreement discussed in Daniel 9:27.  That is the agreement between the Antichrist and Israel.  If such a deal is reached, and we the church are here to see it then the answer is no.

What this could be then is a peace deal that could bring about the peace and security that Israel is foretold to be enjoying in Ezekiel 38 prior to the Gog-Magog War.

Whatever happens, if some sort of deal is reached then it will be a significant event and more than likely a major shaper of future end-times events.

Firefight between Israeli and Lebanese soldiers

There was a skirmish today between Israeli and Lebanese soldiers along the border of the two nations.  It seems for now to be an isolated incident, but you never know when something like this can escalate into a major confrontation.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/08/01/lebanese-israeli-troops-exchange-fire-on-border/

Israel not ready for mass protests

There is a Palestinian plan underway to launch mass demonstrations against Israeli settlements in the West Bank on the eve of the September 20 U.N. vote on Palestinian statehood.  There is more detail in the following story from foxnews.com.

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2011/08/01/palestinians-set-date-for-mass-demonstrations/

In what could be a related story, the Jerusalem Post is reporting that a high ranking Israeli official is concerned the IDF might not be ready for massive Palestinian protests if the U.N. does grant the Palestinian request for statehood.

http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=231798

With the upcoming vote and demonstrations that will be associated with it, I think it is likely we will see the outbreak of some sort of violence in the Middle East.  How extensive it is and how long it lasts remains to be seen.

More on the Palestinians and the U.N.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said he will petition the U.N. for independence in September even if negotiations resume with Israel.  This is change from the position previously taken that the U.N. would only be petitioned if peace talks did not resume.

I believe this will be done by Abbas to continue to put pressure on Israel.  It will be interesting to see how many nations support the Palestinians.  Obviously the more that do, the more pressure Israel will be under.  The move in the U.N. will likely not go anywhere though due to the lack of support from the U.S.  It will however lead to more international pressure on Israel.

And so it begins...

The pleading and posturing before the U.N. by the Palestinians and in turn the Israelis has begun.  This is all preliminary leading up to the possibility of the Palestinians petitioning the U.N. for statehood next month.  In regard to Israel, unless there is a major development with Iran, this will be the dominant story to track over the next six to eight weeks.

Israeli President calls for Syria's Assad to step down

Israeli President Shimon Peres has called for Syrian President Bashar Assad to step down due to his treatment of the Syrian people.

The following article talks about how the dynamic could change in the relationship between Israel and Syria if this were to happen.  Even though they are enemies, there have been decades of peace between the two.  A change in regime in Syria could disrupt this peace.

Isaiah 17 tells us that one day Damascus, the capital of Syria, will be destroyed.  A breakdown in the peace between these two nations could lead to the war predicted in Psalm 83 in which Damascus could be destroyed.

Matthew 24:9-10

In the Olivet discourse of Matthew 24 Jesus listed several signs of His second coming and the end of the age.  I think ofter overlooked by students of end-time prophecy is the prophecy he gave in Matthew 24:9-10.  It reads like this:

“Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because you are my followers.  And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other."

The part I want to focus on today is where Jesus said many will turn away from Him and betray Him.  I believe many in the church are turning away from and betraying Him with the increase of liberal theology in our churches.  We can see churches denying the deity of Christ and turning the Bible into nothing more than "good moral teaching."

We also see it in the number of churches that are accepting homosexuality as a normal, non-sinful lifestyle.  I really believe that this issue more than any other will be used to marginalize Christians in the coming days, weeks, and years.  The mainstream media has taken up homosexuality as the new civil rights issue of our times.  Anyone who has the audacity to call homosexuality a sin, or take a stand against gay marriage is labeled as bigoted, ignorant, intolerant, and a whole host of other derogatory terms.  I am shocked by the number of Christians who have completely compromised the dictates of scripture on this issue and approve and endorse homosexuality.

I hope I am wrong but I truly believe we will see gay marriage legalized in all 50 states sooner rather than later.  Stories like the following one do nothing to sway my view on this.

Will September bring unrest?

Israel is preparing for unrest if among Palestinians if there is not a resumption of peace talks, or the U.N. does not unilaterally recognize a Palestinian state.  I am of the opinion that there will be some sort of unrest in September.

I do not believe there will be any kind of agreement to resume peace talks before September.  Normally the U.S. would be the driving force behind the resumption of such talks, but as of now the government is spending so much time resolving the debt crisis they have had little time to concern themselves with anything else.  All this could change after August 2, but that seems like too compressed of a time to get anything done.

Also, if the Palestinians do go through with their intent to petition for statehood, I believe the U.S. would veto this move.  Because of this, I think it is likely there will be some outbreak of violence in Israel in the September to October time frame.

As Christians, we need to be praying for the peace of Jerusalem in all of this and for the wisdom for our leaders to stand beside Israel.

Netanyahu on Huckabee

There was an excellent interview with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tonight on the Mike Huckabee program on the Fox News Channel.  In the interview he discussed the following topics:
1.  The bond between the United States and Israel
2.  His reaction to speaking before a joint session of Congress in May.
3.  The prospect of the Palestinians petitioning the U.N. for statehood in September, and the U.N. in general
4.  The three standards that exist in the international community: one for democracies, one dictatorships,
     and one for Israel
5.  The desire for democracy in Islamic nations
6.  The Iranian nuclear program

I found it interesting that he would not unequivocally state he felt Israel had the support of the U.S. if they had to take military action against Iran.

Here was my favorite quote from Prime Minister Netanyahu tonight.  "We don't want to be perfectly dead....so we take action."

There will be more of the interview aired on next Saturday's installment of "Huckabee" on the Fox News Channel.  I would encourage everyone to try to find and watch the first part that aired tonight on foxnews.com, mikehuckabee.com, or even youtube.

From the "you don't mess with Israel" department

This past week Norway's Foreign Minister stated that Norway believed the Palestinians were right to petition the U.N. for statehood bypassing all negotiations.  This would of course seize land from Israel promised to them by God.

We have seen the pattern here in the United States how bad things happen soon after our government takes a stance that would harm Israel.  The U.S. is not alone in this.  It does not matter who you are, or where you are, messing with Israel is the same as poking God in the eye.  You can not do so and not expect for there to be consequences.

The individual who carried the attacks out in Oslo was a disturbed man completely wrong in what he did.  However, in response to the position Norway took this past week regarding Israel/Palestine, they supernaturally opened themselves up to this attack.

Iran and nukes

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated his desire for Iran to progress with its nuclear program in open instead of being shrouded in secrecy.  This tells me that one of the following is true: a) he has no fear of the international community or their willingness to stand up to him and Iran, b) he is completely delusional believing the Mahdi is about to appear and he is protected and guided by Allah, c) a combination of the two.

The following excerpt from the article linked below completely blows my mind.

A U.S. official cited one assessment he has seen suggesting Ahmadinejad may be more "moderate" -- more open to talks with the international community on resolving nuclear concerns than Khamenei. He asked for anonymity because his information was privileged.

How can anyone consider a man who advocated the destruction of the state of Israel while addressing the U.N. to be "moderate?"  How can a U.S. official believe Ahmadinejad is "moderate" when he has stated his desire for the annihilation of the Great Satan (the U.S.)?  If this official represents the attitude of the U.S government toward Iran, then Israel is truly alone is dealing this madman and this terrorist, anti-Semitic regime.

If the international community will not take action in dealing with Iran and Ahmadinejad, then the day will come when Israel will be forced to defend itself before being put in the position of staring down a nuclear missile pointed right at them.

Netanyahu ready to negotiate

According to the following article Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ready to get back to negotiating and says anything and everything is on the table to negotiate.

A peace agreement involving Israel would certainly be interesting to end-time prophecy students. I wonder if this could be leading to the peace agreement that will be in place at the time of the Gog-Magog War of Ezekiel 38-39. If it is, we are certainly much closer to the end than many would believe.

EU pushing for restarted peace talks

The EU is pushing for the restarting of peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians with September looming and the possibility of the Palestinians petitioning the U.N. for an independent Palestinian state.

It will be interesting to monitor over the coming weeks how much pressure is exerted on the Israelis to come back to the negotiating table. Along with that, it will be interesting to monitor any repercussions felt by those applying the pressure.

What Islam means by peace

As September draws near and we hear more and more about a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians leading to the creation of a Palestinian state, we need to fully understand the Islamic view of peace.

The word used by Muslims for peace is "hudnah." The meaning of it is more along the lines of a cease fire. It is not peace in the sense of the permanent cessation of hostilities. It is the Islamic idea of a temporary end to hostilities until they are strong enough to again successfully wage jihad.

The U.S., E.U., and U.N. need to realize that any peace made by the Palestinians will not be maintained. Israel is likely going to be pressured into making a deal that will put them in a difficult position in regard to defending their borders against an enemy who may say they want peace but really doesn't.

It is completely possible the seven year peace agreement between Israel and the Antichrist will be broken at the 3 1/2 year mark due to the Islamic idea of hudnah. Imagine the following scenario.

1. Much of the Islamic world is brought to its knees after the war of Gog and Magog in Ezekiel 38-39.

2. In an attempt to buy time to rebuild and re-arm for jihad the Antichrist makes the seven year agreement with Israel.

3. 3 1/2 years in to the tribulation following the dictate of hudnah the Antichrist breaks the agreement.

I am not saying this is what will happen, but it certainly could play out this way.

Potential cause of Ezekiel 38-39

Many people have speculated on what will cause the Gog-Magog coalition of Ezekiel 38-39 to suddenly attack Israel. In answer to that several scholars have speculated it could be the discovery of a major energy source in Israel. IF that is the case, the following article becomes very interesting.

Some 4th of July reading

This article is a very honest and sobering look at the current state of Israeli/U.S. relations. Two things in particular stood out to me.

1. The first was the comment that the attitude in Washington toward Israel is that she has gone from being an asset to a pain in the asset. I find that very concerning.

2. The second is the author's opinion that President Obama will be careful what he does to Israel prior to the 2012 election. I still think he will try to pressure Israel to make peace in the coming weeks, but if he does back off and subsequently get reelected I expect the gloves to come off after November of 2012.

The story line for the next three months

This article gives a good outline of what the Middle-East story line is going to be over the course of the next three months. The implications of the Palestinian plan to petition the U.N. for statehood are far reaching. This is a major story to track in the days ahead. I will be commenting more on this in next few days.

Israel threatens Syrian President

Israel has threatened Syrian President Bashar Assad with a personal attack if Syria starts a war with Israel. Apparently intelligence reports show troop movements that could be considered hostile toward Israel. It is believed Bashar might be considering starting a war to deflect from issues in Syria.

A war between the two nations could lead to the fulfillment of Isaiah 17:2 which says Damascus, the capital of Syria, will be utterly destroyed.

Things that could lead to an Israel/Iran conflict sooner rather than later

Two news stories have caught my attention today. Both of these items in combination lead me to believe a military conflict between Israel and Iran could be just around the corner.

First, Iran recently test fired long range missiles that have the capability of hitting Israel. I would not be surprised to see Israel take action to knock out the Iranian capability to launch such weapons.

http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/iran-test-fires-long-range-missiles-capable-of-striking-israel-u-s-bases-1.370029

http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=226833

Second, a Russian official believes Iran's Bushehr nuclear plant will be fully operational by this August. Couple this story with the first and there is no way Israel will allow Iran to become nuclear capable, or allow those missile silos to stay functional with the threat of nuclear weapons being fired out of them.

The coming weeks and months could be very critical in the tense state of affairs between the two. Christians should in this time redouble their efforts to pray in the following areas:

1. Pray for the peace of Jerusalem - Psalm 122:6

2. Pray for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to have wisdom as he makes decisions on how to act regarding the Iranian threat and the increasing pressure from world leaders to sacrifice land to make peace.

3. Pray for U.S. President Barack Obama to understand the necessity of our government to stand beside Israel and bless her and not curse her. - Genesis 12:3

More exapmles of anti-Israeli bias

We know from the book of Zechariah that the day will come when all nations of the earth come against Israel. It's hard to go a day without seeing examples of how this is beginning to take place. Here are two recent examples.

First, the most recent U.N. Human Rights Council agenda has Israel listed as the only state to be permanently monitored for human rights violations over the next five years. Someway, somehow left off of this list were Yemen, Libya, and Syria, three nations who have recently slaughtered their own people. This is one example of how the world, an increasingly Muslim-friendly world is lining up against Israel.

http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-4083617,00.html

Secondly, President Obama has ratcheted up the foreign policy pressure on Israel while taking it relatively easy on Syria. Syria slaughters its own and barely rates mention while Israel is castigated for wanting to maintain defensible borders.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/why-is-obama-so-tough-on-israel-and-timid-on-syria/2011/06/19/AGmcB3bH_story.html

Fires, floods, and tornadoes have plagued our nation since President Obama has gone public with his expectation that Israel return to pre-1967 borders. If this position is maintained and pressed, which I suspect it will be, more disasters, natural or otherwise, are likely to continue to pound the U.S.

God made it clear in His word in Genesis that the nations that bless Israel will be blessed, and the nations that curse Israel will be cursed. He is true to His word and any continued negative policy toward Israel will bring negative results to the U.S or any other nation.

Nations lining up against Israel

There is growing sentiment among several key nations that concessions need to be made to the Palestinians to keep them happy. These are concessions that will not be good for Israel. We know from Zachariah that the day is coming when all nations will come against Israel. We are starting to see the beginning of that now.

Israel reaches out to Turkey

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reached out to Turkey in attempt to repair the damaged relations between the two nations. Netanyahu should step carefully here. First off, Turkey has recently taken a hard turn toward radical Islam. Second, no peace agreement or understanding between the two will last. Turkey is one of the Islamic nations that will invade Israel in the Gog-Magog war of Ezekiel 38-39.

Big victory for anti-Israeli party in Turkey

The anti-Israeli A.K.P. party won big in parliamentary elections in Turkey this past week. The following article details their victory. I find this interesting for a couple of reasons.

1. Turkey is part of the coalition to invade Israel in Ezekiel 38-39.

2. As mentioned in the article, Turkey's influence is growing in the region. Turkey is the kind of nation that could step up to the plate and forge a regional coalition of 10 nations that could form the basis of the Antichrist's kingdom.

U.S pressuring Israel to accept peace terms

According to the following article, the U.S. is pressuring Israel to accept President Obama's peace plan. The dangerous thing about this plan is that even though President Obama and his advisers promote this plan as being in Israel's best interest, it puts them in a position of having indefensible borders. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is completely in the right to balk against this plan.

I suspect two things will happen going forward.

1. There will be continued diplomatic pressure behind the scenes placed on Israel and Netanyahu by the U.S. to get compliance on Obama's plan.

2. There will be a smear campaign launched in against Netanyahu in the media to discredit his leadership.

U.S. still waiting on Israel to accept terms

According to a National Security Council official, the U.S. is still waiting on Israel to accept the plan for peace laid out by President Obama. Part of this plan is Israel returning to pre-1967 borders.

The best thing that could happen for the U.S. is to give up this idea. Ever since President Obama took this position we have seen some of the worst storms in our nation's history as well as the outbreak of wildfires in the southwest. Taking this type of anti-Israeli position put our nation in the perilous position of having God's hand of protection removed even more.

Foreshadowing the coming black horse of the Apocalypse

Iran sends nuclear subs into Red Sea

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran would not stop enriching uranium as the nation sent submarines into the Red Sea. The type of submarine deployed is capable of firing missiles and torpedoes. This can not be a comfortable fact for Israel.

I wonder how many acts like the refusal to suspend their nuclear program or deploying submarines Iran will undertake before the international community, I'm looking at you U.S., will get serious about dealing with Ahmadinejad and Iran?

All of Iran's actions here continue to point to its role in the invasion of Israel from Ezekiel 38-39.

Good article on the potential role of Turkey

The following is an excellent article written by Joel Richardson about the leadership role Turkey could fill in a future Islamic Caliphate. A grouping of Islamic nations described in the article below would include the region the Antichrist is to arise from. Such a coalition of nations could form the ten-kingdom empire of the Antichrist.

For further study on this topic, I would suggest reading The Islamic Antichrist by Joel Richardson.

More violence in Israel

Israeli troops battled pro-Palestinian protesters on Sunday. This is the second major outbreak of violence in the last month. Any violence such as this will likely cause world leaders to continue to push for a peace agreement in the Middle East. To bring this about we are likely to see the continued pressure on Israel to surrender land.

The Vatican speaks out on Palestinian state

The Vatican recently issued a statement on the need for peace between Israel and Palestinians. The means by which it believes this peace can be achieved is through an independent Palestinian state. This story caught my eye for two reasons.

Number one, it is one more source of pressure on Israel to make concessions.

Number two, is the belief held by some scholars that the false prophet of Biblical prophecy will be an apostate pope. If this is true, could this be the beginning of the Vatican aligning against Israel?

Obama's comments

President Obama's comments about Israel pulling back to the pre-1967 borders are definitely troubling. With Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit to the U.S. coming up, things could get really interesting and maybe even really ugly really fast.

We need to pray that those in authority have the wisdom and understanding to take a stand for Israel.

On a more personal note: I will be getting back to more regular blogging once this move is over. I apologize to those of you who take the time to read this. Please don't give up on me or the blog. :)

This has my curiosity up.

U.S. looking to restart peace process soon

The United States is looking to get the ball rolling on the Israel/Palestinian peace process again. According to the following article from the Jerusalem Post President Obama is working on drafting a new peace proposal. It will be interesting to see how this proposal will treat Israel. Last week CBN reported that President Obama told European leaders to go hard on Israel since he couldn't for political reasons. Will this proposal he is crafting be hard on Israel?

The Latest on the United States and Israel

The United States is close to beginning a renewed push to bring about a peace agreement between the Israeli's and Palestinians. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has stated that U.S. policy regarding a peace plan will be revealed in the coming weeks. http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=216379 This is an issue that should be covered in prayer by Christians here in America. God has said He will bless those nations who bless Israel, and curse those who curse Israel. Throughout our nation's history we have blessed Israel, and we have been blessed because of it. Let's pray this continues. I have to admit, I'm worried this will be the case. There was a report today from CBN News that President Obama has told European leaders to be hard on Israel because he politically is in a place where he can't right now. That is not the attitude of an administration that is looking to "bless" Israel or look out for her best interests. Along these lines we should be praying for next month's meeting scheduled between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Obama. Netanyahu will be coming to Washington D.C. to meet with the president and to address a joint session of congress. At that time he will speak on the peace process and the threat Iran poses to Israel. http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=216692

Major Israel/Hamas conflict looming?

An IDF official is predicting that a large scale conflict between Israel and Hamas is inevitable in spite of the newly minted cease fire. The IDF is remaining on high alert with the possibility of escalated violence breaking out. A conflict involving Hamas, which is located in the Gaza strip, could lead to the battle between Israel and her near neighbors predicted by Psalm 83. http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=216215

Major escalation of fighting in Israel could be just around the corner

Since Saturday morning there have been over 50 rockets fired from Gaza into Israel. Israel will not tolerate this much longer before retaliating in a major way. Such a retaliation, or any other kind of escalation, could lead to a bigger regional conflict like those mentioned in Bible prophecy. http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=215857

Israel preparing for war

Israel recently completed war games in preparation for an all out war with Hamas, Hezbollah, and Syria. A war involving these groups could help fulfill the prophecies of Psalm 83 and Isaiah 17. With all the violence and turmoil in the Middle-East, it is my opinion, that it is only a matter of time until some kind of higher level fighting breaks out involving Israel. http://www.prophecynewswatch.com/2011/April01/0124.html

Mid-East unrest could affect Israel-Palestinian peace process

The growing unrest in Middle-Eastern nations could lead to a renewed emphasis on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. The U.N. and Palestinian statehood

If the United Nations agrees to the Palestinian Authority's request to recognize a Palestinian state along pre-1967 lines, it could lead to a chain of events fulfilling Biblical prophecy. If the U.N. were to recognize a Palestinian state Israel is considering annexing settlements, restricting water, and restricting ports. This would undoubtedly enrage the Muslim world surrounding Israel. This could be the event to trigger the Psalm 83 coalition that comes to wipe Israel off the map. http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=214279 http://www.jpost.com/LandedPages/PrintArticle.aspx?id=214341 http://www.ynetnews.com/Ext/Comp/ArticleLayout/CdaArticlePrintPreview/1,2506,L-4049602,00.html

Video on the Mahdi

I would encourage everyone to visit watch.org, there is a link provided to the right of my blog, and watch the video on the Muslim belief of the imminent appearing of the Islamic messiah figure, the Mahdi. The belief in the Mahdi's soon coming appearance is reinforced by the current turmoil in the Middle-East. There are a couple of things to keep in mind about the Mahdi figure in Islam. 1. It is said he will appear during a time of great turmoil and warfare. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated he believes he is to help prepare the way for the return of Mahdi. To put it in Christian terms, he sees himself as the John the Baptist to the Mahdi's messiah. 2. There are several parallels between the Islamic description of the Mahdi and Biblical descriptions of the Antichirst. If you are interested in further reading on this topic I would suggest reading one or both of the following two books. The Islamic Antichrist by Joel Richardson Unleashing the Beast by Perry Stone

The current state of the Middle-East

The following article provides great commentary on the current state of affairs in the Middle-East. The part that I find really interesting is the statements made on the significance of what is happening right now in the region. The statement look at the significance of the events in the light of history. However, we need to look at the significance of these events in light of scripture. Scriptural references can be found for events happening now or soon to happen in Egypt, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, and the Gaza Strip. All of these are lining things up for the events of the tribulation to take place. It is my opinion, that the spreading uprising in the region is setting the stage for such a great unrest that the world will clamor for peace to be brought to the region. A day will come when one man will step onto the world stage with a promise to bring that peace. http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/thomas032911.php3?printer_friendly

The future of U.S. foreign policy regarding Israel?

The following article is a good insight into the type of foreign policy advice President Obama is receiving. The article mainly deals with Libya, but towards the end it begins to discuss possible future implications for Israel in this shift in foreign policy philosophy.

If we as Americans want to continue to have the benefit of God's blessing on our nation, we need to pray that such a shift as discussed in the article below does not happen. We want to remain a nation that blesses Israel and not become one that is cursing Israel through our actions.

U.S. Secretary of Defense in Israel

The U.S. Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, has arrived in Israel to try to get the stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians back up and running. This comes in the wake of a terrorist attack in Jerusalem and an IDF (Israeli Defense Force) strike on Gaza.

It will be interesting to monitor:
1. If the violence continues to escalate after a somewhat calm period of time
2. How much pressure is the U.S. going to exert for peace talks to resume.

Gaza militants fire on Israel

A new round of violence has erupted between Palestinian militants in Gaza and Israel. This confrontation is much smaller than past skirmishes, and I doubt this one escalates much further.

The Gaza strip region is mentioned in Psalm 83 as part of a coalition coming to destroy Israel. Because of this we know that someday a major war will break out involving militants in Gaza and Israel, however I don't believe this is the start. Only time will tell though. Anything could happen with the current environment in the Middle-East right now.

The rising influence of Turkey

The following article is a very well thought out and written look at Turkey's rising influence in the Middle-East. I'm posting it here because I think it is well worth reading. Three things stand out to me as interesting in the article.

1. Turkey is moving further away from a secular government and closer to a more fundamentalist Islamic government. Due to this, their relationship with Israel has taken a turn for the negative. Turkey is one of the nations mentioned in Ezekiel 38-39 that will be part of the coalition attacking Israel. Conditions continue to progress toward this inevitability.

2. Turkey is being discussed as a potential leader in bringing together an Islamic coalition of nations. Such a coalition could be the 10 nation kingdom that will bring forth the Antichrist (Revelation 17:12-13). Not that these would be the nations, but eight nations are mentioned in this article that could join together, Turkey and 7 others. Obviously two more would be needed.

3. The sobering thing as an American is the potentially negative effect such a coalition could have on the U.S. The scenario laid out by this article could greatly weaken the U.S. It does need to be said here that there is no mention of the United States in end time prophecy. If things play out the way the article says they could, that may be what weakens the U.S. to the point of not being an end time player.

The most interesting news story in quite some time

While I was watching the news this morning to get the latest on the earthquake in Japan, I heard what I thought was the most interesting news report that I have heard in quite a while. The report was given quickly and almost without thought by the anchor. Obviously there was a rush to get back to coverage from Japan, but even if the earthquake had not happened I doubt this story would have garnered much attention.

The thing is, as I said earlier, this report caught my eye more than any news report in a while. I tried to find a link, but have been able to so I'll relay the report from Fox News from memory, and then comment on it.

During the report on Libya's turmoil on the news there was a quote read from an "Omani official" that said the Arab world might have to come together to intervene in Libya. Here is why I find this so interesting:

1. The Middle-East area is the region where the future kingdom of the Antichrist will be located. The possibility of the nations of this area joining together for a common goal could be one of the first steps to this kingdom being formed.

2. One individual is talking about this region coming together to intervene in Libya, to bring peace. I'm NOT saying this official is the Antichrist, but one day a man from this region will arise promising peace.

3. Libya is one of the nations the Antichrist will come to control when he comes. Combine that fact with reason number one above, and you can see where pieces could be coming even more into place for the prophecies of the Bible concerning the Last Days to be fulfilled.

The Japanese earthquake and tsunami

Anytime a major world event like this happens, there is always a curiosity as to how in fits into Bible prophecy. This earthquake and tsunami are not specifically mentioned anywhere in scripture. The one reference we could look to for scriptural implications is Matthew 24:7 in which Jesus lists earthquakes in various places as a sign of the last days.

Day of Rage recap

The Saudi Day of Rage turned out to be a bust. There were some protests, but nothing major. Personally I am not surprised by this.

There was very little media coverage due to the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

Day of Rage

Don't forget to keep an eye open for news out of Saudi Arabia. Tomorrow is supposed to be the Day of Rage. It will surprise me if anything happens, but only time will tell.
